Sesame Allergen List

Sesame may be the ninth most common food allergen.   Sesame seeds are often found on breads or rolls and in Asian and Middle Eatern foods.

  • Tahini (sesame butter)
  • Gomashio (Japanese seasoning made with sesame and salt)
  • Hummus (chickpea pate often made with tahini)
  • Halvah (sweet made of sesame paste)
  • Dukkah (Middle Eastern spice blend)
  • Sesame seeds
  • Sesame oil
  • Zatar (Middle Eastern spice made of sumac and sesame)
  • Chinese stir fry oils, such as chili oil, are sometimes based on sesame oil

Foods that may contain sesame

  • Breads/rolls/breadsticks
  • Middle Eastern foods
  • Chinese foods (stir frys, donuts)
  • Japanese foods (often sprinkled inside sushi)
